Payson, Utah Temple Groundbreaking Ceremony

Isn't this BEAUTIFUL?! Today was such an exciting day here in our usually quiet neighborhood! I think we are all bursting with joy at the reality of the temple coming to our area, starting NOW! The groundbreaking ceremony was this morning, and Elder Dallin H. Oaks presided at the site. It was nice to listen to him tell about his history with payson, and to listen to the other speakers as well. The girls even listened pretty well. It was really wonderful to be able to take the older two girls to the stake center up the street from us and they watched it happening as it was just going on a couple of blocks from our house! It was pretty cold but luckily the rain subsided for the most part, but we did not have tickets so weren't in the cold, thankfully. The girls wouldn't have lasted. It was so awesome to be a part of this wonderful day in history! I am thrilled at the announcement of this temple and I already feel so blessed to be able to watch it go up. I hope to be able to volunteer my time to help with whatever I can, and eventually attend it often!

Here is the site. It was hard to try and take pictures after it was over and there were a lot of people walking around, but here are a few. I wish I would have been there to take pictures of them shoveling the dirt!

You can see the top corner of our church meeting house on the left side of these two pictures. It will be right next door to our church, and just around the corner from our house!

People waiting to cross the street after it was over.

As you can see the traffic was probably the most this town has ever seen! It was so awesome to see people all over the place and walking with their little ones, umbrellas and all! There was definite excitement in the air!

This is the street the temple will be on

right off my street

I plan to take and post more pictures as the progress continues with the temple! Have I mentioned, I am so excited?!

How awesome to have a temple so close to your house! It was such a neat experience for us when we lived in Redlands and the temple was being built there. Even though we live hundreds of miles away now, we still claim it as "our temple".

I love that you are going to take pictures at the progress continues! I look forward to seeing them. What a great experience for your girls too! I am sure you will have some great opportunities to help with it as it is being built and once it is finished.

We too are so excited about the announcement of the renovation of the provo tabernacle into a temple!

What a sweet post, Jana. I've been thinking how wonderful you are on so many levels. You are such a kind cousin to Abby--giving her your baby car seat and some other things! That really helped them out a lot. And, busy as you are with three children + an outside job, you still found the time to write to Shawn in Brazil. You're amazing! I love you!!!
